It’s been weeks now since the day Russia attacked Ukraine.
I just glance at the news and feel helpless, not being able to do anything about these big battles and the course of history.
The real impact on me, a California resident, is the cost of gasoline, which is starting to look more and more like the $6.00 a gallon mark.
It is interesting to look back at the history of the relationship between Russia and Ukraine.
I heard from those who lived in the former Soviet Union and as soon as the western powers came soaring in, drugs started flowing in too.
In a world where we tend to look at things in black and white, such as who is to blame, there are more things that are gray.
Remember the Iraq War?
The war started in 2003 and began with weapons of mass destruction, maybe.
By the time it was announced that there wasn’t after all, a lot of people had already died and Hussein had already been executed (or not, I don’t know what the timeline is).
People who don’t know about the announcement may not know that it never happened. They might think it, Bad and deserved.
The energy to justify war in the U.S. at that time was tremendous. I remember the famous morning DJs on the radio were also agitating.
I was surprised because in Japan I had been taught the idea of opposing war.
But the reason for this education against the war is to prevent Japan from ever starting the war again.
However, history may be determined by someone else and moved accordingly.
