I live in a small apartment, but I had to build a home office in a corner of my house. In the living room, I’m going to clear out the desk I have for my daughter that she doesn’t use and the “large shelf with miscellaneous things on it” next to it, and put a shelf as tall as the desk in its place, making it an extension of the desk.
I had to get rid of a lot of toys and picture books that they don’t read but had a strong attachment to or were too good to let go of.
At any rate, I went to Bookoff and had them take the books. Of course, they didn’t take all of them, but goodbye to the ones they didn’t take. This alone was a big relief.
Toys are not taken at donation places these days, and I was wondering what to do since no one around me has young children, but a friend of mine said she donated them to a pre-school, which my son and daughter also attended. Oh, thank goodness. I mean, I should have brought more.
On Mother’s Day weekend, I had my children accompany me to Ikea. We enjoy looking at the showroom. It looks stylish, but things are basically so few that it looks clean, the life without things that I long for. I’m sure I could live even if I threw away 70% of the stuff in my house, but I can’t make up my mind. It’s a dilemma.
Shelves about the same height as the desk, also in the showroom, but none, even though it said it was in stock. It’s a common thing here at Ikea. I had no choice but to buy another shelf, but it was too difficult for me to assemble. So I returned it the next day. Then, I went to Amazon and bought it. I remember this happened to me before. The return is going to take about 40 minutes with a system that will notify me by text when the waiting time is over, so I have to look around the store again.
When I go to Ikea, I feel like I’ve walked as much as hiked because I usually don’t get enough exercise.
My kids want to replace this, that, and the other.
But before that, we have to declutter! I have to say to them, “Before you do that, you have to get rid of the old stuff! (Telling myself).
I think digital books are the way to go these days.
