4 Weeks of Castor Oil Packs: Detox, Emotions, and Decluttering My Life Body

This marks the end of my third week using castor oil packs, and this morning, I finally took a tablespoon of high-quality olive oil as recommended.

During the second week, I didn’t feel the same intense drowsiness as before, but on the second day, I noticed discharge from my right eye (oddly just the right one). That “post-cold recovery” feeling continued.

I placed the castor oil not only over my liver but also over the left side of my lower abdomen, around the uterus area, which I’ve been intuitively drawn to. I also tried applying it to my lungs, as I’ve had asthma since childhood. But since I only had one hot water bottle, I could only apply heat to each area for about 5 minutes before returning to the liver.

Actually, I wrote this part two weeks ago. Now I’ve completed my fourth week of castor oil packs.

By the fourth week, that early sensation—like I was recovering from a cold—had faded. However, I began to notice something new. In Eastern medicine, the liver is associated with the emotion of anger. And I did feel like my irritability had slightly decreased. Just maybe.

I’ve been reading blogs and books on macrobiotics and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and they associate organs with emotions like this:

  • Liver = Anger

  • Lungs = Sadness

  • Heart = Joy

  • Kidneys = Fear

  • Spleen (digestive system) = Worry or overthinking

Apparently, even too much joy can be harmful to the heart, leading to emotional imbalance. I looked into it further and found that when the “heart” is off-balance, a person may become cold, emotionally detached, or sharp-tongued.

Honestly, I relate to all of those. And you know what that means? Pay attention to your kidneys! They’re the ones that help us eliminate waste—both physically and emotionally. Time to declutter!

Our house is still full of toys and items from when my kids were little. I’ve had a hard time letting go of them. But I’m finally starting to clean out little by little. Releasing what no longer serves us feels deeply connected to healing.

Recently, I’ve also been exploring oil rituals. I’ve learned about oil pulling with coconut oil—swishing it around your mouth for 15 minutes to support oral and overall health. And yes, I even came across suggestions to use castor oil as eye drops (though I haven’t tried that… yet!).

Let’s just say—I’m in my oil era.
